📚🐮BMS READ-A-THON RAISES FUNDS FOR NONPROFIT:
Barrington Middle School students helped raise more than $11,000 for Heifer International, a nonprofit working to end global hunger and poverty, by participating in the Read to Feed read-a-thon! For three months, students read as many books as they could and collected pledges based on the number of books they read or the amount of time they spent reading.
Grade 8 ELA teachers also incorporated the read-a-thon into their classes as a deeper learning project where students learned about the fundraising process, how non-profit organizations operate, and the importance of global citizenship. At the end of the read-a-thon, students voted on the top five gifts from a list that included a flock of chickens, a water buffalo, a pair of cattle, a honeybee farm, a community solar kit and more, to donate to Heifer International.
Way to go, BMS!
